“I…c-can’t hear…you…”
She lay just out of my reach.  I strained beyond my limits and felt my muscles burn as though in a furnace.
“Sarah!  Hold on!”
She slipped a little further and I cried out in despair.
Looking back I could see the others.  They were vainly attempting to hold back a massive creature.  The legendary monster roared and knocked half of them down with one swipe.  I turned back to Sarah and stretched out again.  Her hand was just inches away.
“God damnit!  Please!  I don’t want to lose you…”
“W-where…I…help…”
The rocks crumbled a little more and her hand slipped further from my reach.
My vision grew watery as tears flooded my eyes.  I gave my all one last time and screamed in agony as those last few inches taunted me.
“I’m…s-scared…”
I had done all I could.  Everything was pulling against me.  I did the only thing that was left.  I spoke.
“Sarah…do you remember our promise?”
“”Wh-what?”
“Our Promise!!”
“The…flowers…”
“I’ll meet you there.  Wait for me!”
She fell and there was nothing I could do.
